OF DIVERGENT AND CONVERGENT VIEWS

The recently-concluded general elections really shook up Singapore. If anything, the hustings polarised Singaporeans politically like never before.

In one corner, fervent supporters of the opposition party reject the policies, ideas and even tears shed by the People's Action Party, labelling the incumbant as a collective group of yes-men without heart. In the other corner, PAP cadres thought that their men-in-white have done an amazing job in resource-barren Singapore, leading the country into international prominence of the highest degree. As seen on Facebook, political discussions between friends sometimes can turn into heated arguments. I'm not sure if they'll reconcile after polling day.

Talking about Polling Day, how did you vote? I'm one of the 6.7% who could not exercise my right as a citizen - I stay in Tanjong Pagar GRC. I'm 32 and I've never voted, but I have a feeling that will change as I'll be moving to the northeast part of Singapore before the next general elections.

Like politics, sports can be very polarising as well. For instance, I'm pretty sure you won't find somebody who is both a Man Utd and Liverpool supporter. In any case, let me take this chance to congratulate the Red Devils! Glory glory Man Utd. 19. Top of the perch. Up yours liverfools!!

Unfortunately in professional golf, things don't last quite as long as a club or franchise. Manchester United was founded in 1878 and unless it falls in spectacular fashion, the club will blaze the football league for decades to come.

For a professional golfer, once he or she retires, that is probably it. There won't be any more titles or trophies to add onto their existing haul.

However, legacies last forever.

Seve Ballesteros died on  May 7 2011. He will always be remembered as a flamboyant champion, a fighter and an extraordinary human being. That's something we can all agree on.

Rest-in-peace Seve.
