Burning Irons

TaylorMade’s new irons will make some headway in convincing the most demanding of golfers that they need not play forged irons to get that solid feel from their shots.

In today’s technological advancement, companies like the No. 1 fairway woods name are able to cast clubs with such precision that they provide all the sound and feel from traditional forged clubs, with greatly expanded forgiveness and ease of use.

TaylorMade’s new Burner Plus Irons is where the company is banking on to be the next big thing, where irons are concerned. All the stops were pulled to build an iron that brims with performance features. The large clubface is incorporated with the Inverted Cone Technology from the woods range for increased coefficient of restitution over a large portion of the face. Perimeter weighting is maxed out for great MOI and forgiveness. And the wide, beveled multi-functional sole – constructed with low, deep CG – helps make the club highly playable from all lies. The Burner Plus Irons are available in men’s RE*AX 60 (60g) graphite shafts, men’s Burner 85 (85g) steel shafts and women’s RE*AX 50 (50g) graphite shafts.

But if you prefer a less “game-improving” design and veer towards the more traditional, then the Tour Preferred is probably a better bet. The back of the club might reek of TaylorMade’s ICT, and possess all manners of bells and whistles to help you with that super-soft feel when club meets ball. But when you look down on the sleek, top line, you would be proud to be its owner. What you don’t see is the Tour-configured sole for better turf interaction, and the shorter blade length to help create that compact look at address. The Tour Preferred Iron comes in True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shafts.

Make The Move
Sergio Garcia finally got the better of a play-off when he triumphed over Oliver Wilson in the HSBC Champions. And he probably had TaylorMade’s r7 Limited Driver to thank. This is the latest TaylorMade driver incorporating its trademark Movable Weight Technology, where the golfer can move three ports to change the trajectory of the ball up to 35 yards right or left. As with all TaylorMade clubs, the Inverted Cone Technology delivers fast ball speed with great forgiveness. The r7 Limited is equipped with the Matrix OZIK XCON 5.5 MOI graphite shaft, specially developed by both TaylorMade and Matrix to maximise the efficacy with high-MOI driver clubheads.
