Take Dead Aim

You would have probably experienced this before: You take aim and set up properly as advised by your coach. Then, just as the ball leaves the putter face, you realise that it goes off the intended putting line.

You’re definitely not alone. According to the researchers from TaylorMade Golf, 64.4 per cent of amateur golfers aim the putterface wrongly. Trying to solve that is what they had in mind when developing the Taylormade Rossa Monza Spider Balero putter (S$348.75 at all authorised dealers).

The designers took a no-holds-barred approach to helping golfers aim accurately. The most prominent feature is the “ball-in-cup” at the back of the head, an effective visual cue to line up the clubface with the intended line. The “ball-in-cup” also reinforces an image of a ball against the centre of the back lip of the cup. This promotes the good practice of rolling the ball firmly into the back of the cup on short putts.

The designers have also taken into consideration the image that a golfer sees during address. The ball, clubface, white line on top of the head and the round hole though the back help to simplify the act of starting the ball rolling on the exact line you’ve chosen.

Apart from promoting accuracy during address, the putter performs excellently as well. The large head-shape design results in a high moment of inertia for greater forgiveness, and the uni-body stainless steel construction provides exceptional feel and control. The head’s low centre of gravity, together with Taylormade’s much lauded AGSI insert, promotes a smooth, forward rolling putt.
