“I thought that the volunteers at the scoreboard made a mistake”

That was said by Angela Stanford when a reporter asked her about Lorena Ochoa’s triple bogey at the 18th. The Mexican world number 1 completely missed the mark in round two with a string of errors particularly at her back nine. In total, she made four bogeys, one triple bogey and absolutely no birdies. Her score of 79 leaves her eight strokes behind the leaders. A friend of local qualifier Joey Poh commented on her Facebook page, “Ochoa played 79 today she only beat u by one stroke! hahah u are catching up with the world number 1!” I thought that was absolutely hilarious.
Meeting targets

Talking about Joey Poh, she said that her aim for this tournament is to hit under 80 for all four rounds. So far, she is staying on course as she is just two strokes over her target (82-80). In true honesty, I’ve yet to catch her in action over the past two days, but from the way she spoke about her approach to the game, she seemed really confident and upbeat towards the entire experience. I wish her well for the weekend and hope that she hits a couple of sub-70s.
The Japanese birdie machine

When it comes to scoring, I don’t think any other golfer racked up more birdies today, than the very popular Momoko Ueda. She went onto the golf course all immaculately made up, along with cutesy ankle-length socks that has a furry yellow ball at the back. She wore a red Callaway cap and her flowing, highlighted hair was tied in neat ponytail. Before every shot, she’d jiggle her left arm to slide her wrist charms in place. OK, I shall not get carried away. She scored an amazing EIGHT birdies in a single round, including five consecutive ones. She was playing really well and would have broken the record for lowest round score (currently at 65 held by Lorena Ochoa), if not for the 3 bogeys towards the end. The pressure and excitement does get to even the best players. Nevertheless, it was a brilliant effort from the petite Japanese.
In brief:
- Where’s Michelle? Plenty of fans expected her to create an impact but so far, she’s been steady and unspectacular with 73-72.
- Angela Stanford held the lead two days in a row. Nice!

- Yani Tseng and Han Hee Won with best round scores of 67. Go Asia!
- Julie Inkster, T3, 49 years-young, proves that age is just a number in golf
- I don’t think there are any skirts shorter than the ones worn by the Stella Artois girls
