Waiting in Anticipation

I've always admired the Ladies' game. The women professionals possess the grace and acute sartorial sense that make the beautiful game of golf truly beautiful. Gone are the days when professional women golfers wear awkward-looking Bermudas with oversized and gaudy looking tops. Now, they adorn vibrant, well-fitted clothes that accentuated their graceful movement and form. I’m really looking to the HSBC Women’s Champions held later this month when the likes of Paula Creamer, Momoko Ueda and Michelle Wie descend upon the Tanah Merah Country Club. It'll definitely be a grand feast for my eyes!

Apart from the obvious aesthetical attraction, I enjoy watching the ladies for their course management skills. Obviously, they cannot drive as far as the men. Hence, it takes precision and discipline around the golf course to make their round count. Sometimes, I feel that power is overrated in golf and seeing a softer approach is, at least to me, really refreshing.

Of course, some ladies have the pure power and finesse to outdrive many of their male counterparts. Michelle Wie comes immediately to mind. Tall, and statuesque, she also commands a unique star presence that few in the LPGA have. I won't be surprise if a huge crowd follows her every move while she plays her first professional tournament here in Singapore. She looks great and has an Asian heritage that most Singaporeans can easily relate to. She intrigued me even during her fruitless times as an amateur and I even admired her rather stubborn decision to play with the boys. I hope she does well in this year's HSBC Women’s Champions tournament.

I know it's kind of paradoxical that I appreciate the pure power of Michelle Wie and yet prefer to watch the women’s game for their softer, more graceful approach. The good thing is, at this year's HSBC Women's Champions, I will get the best of both worlds!
