As a relatively new publication, Golf Digest Singapore has made many of inroads in the local golf scene. Over the past two years, we have been the official magazine for Lexus Cup, HSBC Women’s Champion and the Barclays Singapore Open. Last November, we reached another milestone with the inaugural Golf Digest Singapore Parent-Child Tournament at the Sentosa Golf Club.

The tournament was played under warm weather conditions at the Tanjong Course on November 26, 2009. In total, 40 teams vied for attractive prizes from sponsors that included TeamLink and Clarins, as well as the honour of being the tournament’s pioneering champions. A Clarins Pampering Station and ice-cool refreshments sponsored by Movenpick provided participants some much-needed relief from the heat at the halfway house.

The elegant Sentosa Pavillion provided the venue for the tournament’s evening proceedings. Invited guests, sponsors and the participants sat down for a lavish buffet spread and the prize presentation ceremony. Kwon Tae Kil and his son Austin Kwon won the A division with 41 Stableford points, while Soh Soo Kai and Soh
Jun Ming won swept the B division with 49 points. The tournament and lucky draw winners walked away with trophies and a glittering array of prizes.

The tournament was very well received by the participants, as it gave parents and their loved ones an invaluable opportunity to work towards a common goal. Soh Soo Kai, leader of the team that won the B Division competition said, “I have to thank Golf Digest Singapore for organising this tournament. It gave my son and I one valuable day to bond.”

In a short thank you speech, Golf Digest Singapore editor Tan Ju Kuang reiterated the special element of this tournament in the sea of corporate events throughout the year. “It’s not every day that you, as a parent, get to spend four hours of quality time with your child. We thought that you would enjoy this time together, enjoying your favourite game, while also competing as a team for some great prizes.”

In view of the many positive responses from the participants, the organisers are encouraged to make this year’s event even bigger and better.
