It has been 130 years since Kintaro Hattori created his first Seiko timepiece in Kyobashi, Tokyo. To celebrate this milestone, Thong Sia Co Pte Ltd, SEIKO’s Singapore sole distributor, held a special Seiko 130th Anniversary Exhibition at Vivo City from November 9 to 13, 2011. Vinent Lau Tak-bui, Director and CEO of Thong Sia Group, Kenichi Maeda, Senior Manager of SEIKO Watch Corp, James Law, Director of City Chain, Charissa Wong, Country Manager of City Chain, as well as local celebrities Felicia Chin and Nat Ho were present to grace the opening of the exhibition.

Many of SEIKO’s first classic watches were showcased at the commemorative event, including the trailblazing “Laurel”, Japan’s first locally made wrist watch, introduced in 1913; and the “Astron”, the world’s first quartz watch fashioned in 1969.

A limited edition pair watches that comes in a gift box set was specially designed to mark SEIKO 130th anniversary.This comprised a SEIKO black steel fully automated and a solar energy timepiece. Both carry a commemorative rear case that marks the 130th anniversary of SEIKO. Only 1,300 sets are made exclusively for Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The exhibition also showcased some of SEIKO’s new creations. The Ananta series features a glossy black diver’s watch equipped with SEIKO-patented SPRON 610 mainspring, the hallmarks of accuracy, robustness, and durability. And kinetic watch lovers were thrilled with the Premier Commemorative Collection offering a perpetual calendar technology, which requires no manual date adjustments till February 2100.
